History
Built and expanded under successive Nizams, Chowmahalla hosted durbars, receptions and the formal face of Asaf Jahi power while Purani Haveli and other residences handled daily court life. Restoration in recent decades reopened major halls to the public.
Architecture
European and Indo-Saracenic tastes mix in stucco, chandeliers and long reception halls. The Afzal Mahal and Khilwat spaces show how Hyderabad’s court absorbed global styles without abandoning Deccan ceremonial order.
Visit
Closed Fridays. Guided or self-paced walks cover the courtyards and museum rooms; combine with Charminar and Mecca Masjid for an Old City heritage circuit.
